Week of July 15 – July 19: Calendar Foodie Favorites
The calendar is filled with happy holidays and happenings all year through and this week we will celebrate the cuisine of a select few. How about having a lucky lunch on St. Patrick’s Day, a fiesta feast on Cinco de Mayo, or birthday baking for your special day! Young chefs will learn essential cooking and kitchen techniques while learning to prepare a menu of entrees that can be served throughout the year.
Week of July 22 – July 26: What Not to Eat: Junk Food Makeovers
What kid doesn’t want to stuff their faces silly with dino-nuggets, french fries, doughnuts, and Oreos for every single meal? Well, after spending a week with our master makeover team in the Culinary Kids’ kitchen, parents and kids alike will be indulging in these previously sinful snacks with none of the guilt or tummy aches. Pancakes and Oreos get styled by “Superfoods”, pizza and fries accessorize with colorful veggies, and the classic chocolate cake gets a much needed update starring zucchini. By week's end, your kids will have secretly enjoyed so many healthy makeovers, your family’s pantry will never look the same!
Week of July 29 – August 2: Copy Cat Cooking
Does your child have a favorite restaurant? Are they always requesting Lettuce Wraps from one place and BBQ Chicken Pizza from another? Let’s take a trip down take out lane without having to leave the house. Throughout the week we will make recipes that are sure to please even the pickiest palate. We will make stops along the way for tacos, biscuits, and then finish it off with a sweet treat inspired from BJ’s. Come join us as we tour Orange County’s tastiest treats and delicious dishes during Copy Cat Cooking.
Week of August 5 - August 9: Triple S: Sammys, Sides, & Sweets
Ahhhh, the three S’s- Sammy’s sides and sweets! These delicious food categories may sound like standard old lunch fare, but the teachers of Culinary Kids have a few tricks up their sleeves to think outside the lunch box. Rice made out of spinach and cilantro, mini sandwiches made of BBQ (homemade) chicken instead of bread and turkey, your trusty side of potato chips goes south of the border for pomegranate cutie guacamole, and the predictable chocolate chip cookie marries a brownie to create the indulgent “brookie”. Check your brown sack lunches at the door, this week we will explore our favorite S’s with a twist!
Week of August 12 - August 16: Iron Chef Junior
Could you be the next Iron Chef? Do your taste buds scream for flavor? Do you let your imagination come alive when dreaming up new and exciting ways to pair ingredients in you dishes? Join us in the kitchen for Iron Chef Junior where you will be challenged to incorporate one mystery ingredient into each recipe we make that day. How would you put chocolate in a savory meal? Could you use yams in an appetizer, main meal and dessert? Everyday we will test your tastes and tickle your culinary senses with tantalizing flavors that you'd never imagine would work while teaching you basic knife skills and culinary principles. Sweet and savory sensations will collide in this fast paced, hand on cooking session.
